From Repeta & Repeta 22

June 29th, 2022

We hope you enjoy this final clip of the season featuring Repeta and her Volatile filly. The striking pair are content at Three Chimneys, with Repeta in the early weeks of her pregnancy and Repeta 22 thriving at her mother's side. Repeta 22 will likely be weaned in late August/early September, and we send happy and well wishes to this mom and filly for a great summer and all that follows.

We extend our thanks to Three Chimneys Farm for being a part of Foal Patrol through each of its five seasons. Foal Patrol followers have learned much from you as you opened your farm and broodmare operations to the world and answered many important questions from fans of all ages. Thank you for your continued support, commitment to education and outreach, and all that you do to ensure the best possible care for your horses. Your dedicated Foal Patrol fans wish your team and horses the very best.

We are pleased to post that Repeta is currently pregnant at 24 days post breeding. She was bred to Not This Time as planned, and Three Chimneys' Chris Baker provides more on that pairing choice in the video below posted earlier this season. Foal Patrol congratulates Repeta, and her many followers wish her the absolute best in the upcoming months. Click here for more information on Not This Time.

Lovely pair

June 23rd, 2022

For all of you missing the live camera feed at Three Chimneys, here are some fresh photos of Repeta and her Volatile filly. Not yet 3 months old, Repeta 22 exudes a poise and confidence beyond her age, and we are happy to share that this lovely pair continues to do well in Versailles, Kentucky.

New photos

June 15th, 2022

We are happy to share our newest photos of Repeta 22. The first thing you may notice is more gray presenting on her face. As we shared last week, her coat will continue to lighten as she ages.

Never too far from Repeta's guidance and example, this filly is maturing well at Three Chimneys, and her development since last month's photos is impressive.

Live camera feed at Three Chimneys will continue through June 20th, so be sure to tune in to mom and filly this week.

Coat color

June 10th, 2022

We have received some questions about Repeta 22’s coat color, as her sire, Volatile, is gray. Genetically, gray is not a color but a color modifier that causes a gradual loss of pigmentation. A foal born any color with an expressed gray gene will begin to lighten after birth, and the lightening continues as the horse ages.

The first part of a foal that begins to gray is typically the head. Look for lighter hairs around the eyes, on the backs of ears, and sometimes on the lower legs. The light hairs around Repeta 22’s eyes were evident from the start, as you can see in this photo taken on the morning after she was born.
