Headed to Kentucky this weekend

May 27th, 2022

Just a reminder that Floripa and her Vekoma filly will be headed to Kentucky this weekend, where Floripa will be bred back to Violence. For more information, see our May 24th post - "Road trip."

Placenta exam

May 26th, 2022

On April 13, we shared a video of Three Chimneys' Chris Baker discussing Repeta's placenta and things to look for during a post-foaling placenta examination, including its weight, color, and structural soundness.

We received this video from Old Tavern Farm yesterday, in which Elena and Axel, children of the farm's veterinarians Dr. Scott Ahlschwede & Dr. Patricia Flores Ahlschwede of Rood & Riddle Saratoga, conduct their own post-foaling exam of Floripa's placenta. A big thanks to Elena and Axel for sharing their knowledge with us and helping us understand the many things a placenta has to tell us about mare and foal health.

Road trip

May 24th, 2022

It's that time of the season again, and Old Tavern Farm has confirmed Floripa and her Vekoma filly will be headed to Kentucky this weekend, where Floripa will be bred back to Violence who stands at Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa in Bourbon County. The pair will remain in Kentucky until Floripa is in foal. Click here for more information on Violence.

We'll provide you with updates on Floripa and her filly as they are available. Visit our Season 5 Education Site for more information on foal management during breeding and horse transport.

Their camera schedule has been updated to feature live paddock camera feed from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. starting tomorrow.

Enjoy this little clip of mom and filly in the Saratoga sunset this evening.

Event today

May 24th, 2022

If you're checking in on Floripa and her filly and wondering why they're not in their stall, Old Tavern Farm is hosting an event today. Mom and filly are still turned out for the occasion. Thank you for tuning in!

May 20th, 2022

We just heard from the farm that Floripa and her filly will be on night turnout for the first time tonight. With the temperatures rising in Saratoga, the pair will have this new camera schedule:

Paddock camera: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Stall camera: 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
